Bio
Dr. Oyetunde Oyeyemi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Zoology and specializes in Parasitology. His research activities are focussed primarily on epidemiology and control of transmission of parasitic diseases. He is currently unmasking schistosomes proteins and microRNAs which can serve as diagnostic blueprints for schistosomiasis. Dr. Oyeyemi is a member of the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA), and he chairs the Biological Sciences and Health Research Group of the Academy. He is widely published and reviews for many reputable journals. He was a Visiting Scientist at the University of Essex, United Kingdom and also currently a Postdoctoral fellow at Instituto de Lima, Rene Rachou, Fiocruz, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He is a fellow of the AREF Excell Researcher and Leadership Development Programme, an initiative that seeks to build the capacity of African ‘rising stars’ in global health. He’s an ardent scholar who also collaborates with scholars within and outside Nigeria, including, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Germany, India, and Egypt. Dr. Oyeyemi seeks to facilitate knowledge transfer in the South through networking and collaboration for capacity building. His long term goal is to be a research champion in Africa who will facilitate drug, vaccine, and efficient diagnostics discovery against neglected tropical parasitic diseases.
