Bio
Dr. Oscar Liburd is a fruit and vegetable entomologist and Professor who conducts research on insect pest management. He has more than 25 years of experience working on alternatives to conventional pesticides for production fruit and vegetable crops. He also has state-wide responsibilities in Extension in Florida developing insect pest management programs for fruits and organic vegetables. His research focuses on effective monitoring systems, biological control, cultural control and evaluating the impact of pesticides on natural enemies and pollinators. He has delivered over 200 research and extension presentations, including 3 webinars and 5 workshops. Dr. Liburd has been the principal and co-investigator on grants valued more than 30 million USD. He is active on social media including maintaining “Fruit and Vegetable IPM twitter and Facebook accounts. He has published more than 150 refereed research papers, and 170 extension related papers. He is also a co-author on the UF/IFAS Blueberry Guide Apt that gives information on managing insect pest populations in blueberry systems (conventional and organic), as well as pesticide information.
