Dr. Owojori has been a Research Scientist at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and is a Visiting Scholar at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria where he taught and researched for ten years before relocating to Canada. Olugbenga bagged his PhD at Stellenbosch University, South Africa in 2009, and subsequently acquired two postdoctoral fellowships in Canada (2009-2011) and Germany (2011-2012). The latter was sponsored by the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, Bonn Germany. He is recipient of several awards both as a student and researcher. Apart from several conference grants, he was awarded the best student presentation at the International Conference on Contaminated Soil Sediment and Water at the University of Massachussett, Amherst, USA in 2008. As a former DAAD (2006-2009), and Humboldt scholar he was awarded DAAD staff Exchange Fellowship as a visiting Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, North West university, South Africa in 2014. Olugbenga was also recipient of The World Academic Services (TWAS) Research grant in basic science ($17,500), as well as Alexander von Humboldt Research (6000 Euro) and Equipment (40,000 Euro) grants between 2014 and 2019. He was also a recipient of TWAS-DFG 2-month visiting fellowship to the University of Bremen, Germany in 2014. In 2011 he was awarded the Dapo Afolabi Most Productive Science Scholar at the Obafemi Awolowo University, le-Ife, Nigeria. Recently in April, 2018, he was invited (as one of ten global experts) to Rome, Italy by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations to develop a Pesticide Registration Toolkit for use in developing countries. During the course of his academic career, Olugbenga has supervised at least three Master’s thesis and several undergraduate theses, and published at least 26 research articles (H-index of 13) and presented his research in more than twenty international and local conferences. He was rated as one of the 300 most cited scientists in Nigeria (Webometric ranking, 2015. http://muratalper.com/haber/310/ranking-of-scientists-in-nigeria-namibia-ghana-botswana-kenyan.html).He was also a member of the scientific committee and a Session Chair, Soil Ecotoxicology and Other Stressors Session, at the International colloquium on Soil Zoology, Coimbra, Brazil, August 5, 2012. Dr. Owojori is deeply involved in community service. He is the initiator and co-ordinator of a short course programme tagged, ‘Foundational Research Skills in the Life Sciences’, which hosted at least 40 Postgraduate students from across the Faculty of Science and other allied faculties at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria every year.
