Graduated in Agronomic Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1989) and Ph.D. in Agronomy (Soil Sciences with an emphasis in Soil Microbiology) from the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio De Janeiro (1997) with an internship at the German Research Center for Environmental Health (Munich-Germany). He worked as a post-doc with a CNPq grant at Embrapa-Agrobiologia (1997-1998) and as a visiting professor at the Laboratory of Cellular and Tissue Biology (LBCT), Center for Biosciences and Biotechnology (CBB) of the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense (UENF) from 1999 to 2002. He is currently Associate Professor, where he held a leadership position in the period 2012-2015. Coordinates and collaborates in classes for undergraduate students (Cell biology, Biophysics, Instrumentation for Cell Biology, Plant Anatomy, and Plant Physiology). For graduate school, he coordinated/collaborated in disciplines (Cell Biology, Optical Microscopy, and Ecophysiology of Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria, Plant Biotechnology I, Plant Cell Biology, and Biotechnology of the Microorganism-Plant Interaction). Obtained a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology with a scientific career centered on understanding the beneficial interactions between bacteria and plants. He was a pioneer in describing the process of infection and colonization of grasses by endophytic diazotrophic bacteria and has dedicated himself to prospecting and ecology of beneficial microorganisms. In 2009, he collaborated in the foundation of the Center for the Development of Biological Inputs for Agriculture (NUDIBA / UENF), where he dedicates himself to the training of human resources, development of technologies, and dissemination of knowledge related to the generation of biological products applied to agriculture. He is co-author of a process patent that combines beneficial bacteria and humic substances and, in close collaboration with Prof. Luciano Canellas produced a vast scientific literature on the subject. He is a member of the INCT for Biological Nitrogen Fixation and a consultant to CAPES in the field of Agrarian Sciences I since 2006, and is currently assistant coordinator, with a mandate from 2018 to 2022. He has worked on the following themes: Biotechnology of Inoculants, Endophytic Bacteria, Plant Growth Promotion, Biological Nitrogen Fixation in non-legumes, Plant Microbiomes, Biofertilizers and Biostimulants for Agriculture.
