Bio
Dr. Olayinka Ayotunde Oridupa began her career as Lecturer II in the then Department of Veterinary Physiology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology, but now Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria as the first female academic staff of Veterinary Pharmacology. She also began her residence training in Clinical Pharmacology in October, 2007 and is now a Consultant Clinical Pharmacologist. Her research focus is on Drug Discovery and Development from medicinal plants of African origin used for treatment of diseases of inflammatory origin particularly diabetes, hypertension and cancer. She obtained her doctoral degree in June, 2013 having studied the toxicological and pharmacological effects of Lagenaria breviflora (Family Cucurbitaceae) in various experimental animals. She published seven journal papers from her doctoral thesis and received a Postgraduate School award for this achievement.
She undertook a two-year Postdoctoral research at Cancer Research Laboratory, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, United Kingdom under the supervision of Dr. Kenneth Ritchie. On her return to the university she has forged ahead with her research, teaching and clinical career, mentoring and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate Veterinary Medicine students. She has written over sixty journal articles in local and international journals of international repute, two books and a chapter in a book.
Dr. Oridupa is currently a Senior Lecturer and will become an Associate Professor in a few months. She exhibits leadership roles among her peers with a good team spirit and is also teachable. She collaborates well with other researchers from within and outside her institution and is in a continued collaboration with her U.K. host. She has won several awards which include the Olatunde Agbato Award for the best student in Small Animal Medicine, TetFund Grant for Staff Development (Nigeria) and the ASPET Travel award for Post-Docs. She is currently an Affiliate member of African Academy of Science (2017-2021). Dr. Oridupa recently won the Seeding Labs Equipment Access grant, being one of the 16 successful applicants in the world.
