Olaf Neth

Dr. O Neth graduated from Medical School in Hamburg in 1995. He defended his PhD thesis titled “Minor histocompatibility antigens” in the same year. The corresponding research was performed at the prestigious Imperial Cancer Research Institute ( London, UK) and the University Hospital Eppendorf, Hamburg (Germany). Subsequently Dr. O Neth developed his research career in international reference centers such as the Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and the University College of London, United Kingdom (1997-2000) focusing on the deeper understanding of the role of the innate immune system in the susceptibility to infections in the immunocompromised host. In 2004 he finished his paediatric subspecialist training and this was followed by his specialist training in the field of paediatric infectious diseases and immunology (Great Ormond Street Hospital and St Marys Hospital, London) between 2005-2008. In 2008 Dr. O Neth accepted the position as head of the Paediatric Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology and Immunology Unit of the University Hospital Virgen del Rocío (HUVR). Since 2010 Olaf Neth is also PI of the Inborn Error of Immunity group at the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital affiliated to the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBIS). Dr. O Neth has continuously obtained competitive funding from national and international (public as well as private) funding agencies. Dr. O Neth is vice-president of the GAIP (Andalusian Group of Pediatric Infectology and Immunopathology), which aims to promote the development of Pediatric Infectology and Immunopathology by creating collaborative networks for research in this area, Since 2012 he is board member of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (SEIP) and the Andalusian antimicrobial stewardship program committee. Since 2013 he is director of the international annual training course "Modern Trends in Infectious Diseases and Immunology" in Seville. Olaf Neth's research activity in the field of infectious diseases and paediatric and neonatal immunology is reflected in an extensive scientific production with numerous publications in high impact journals and presentations at national as well as international scientific conferences.
