Bio
Dr Ofentse Mazimba has obtained his Chemistry PhD degree from the University of Botswana in 2011 and is an Organic Chemistry Lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Forensic Science. He has worked as an NMR Scientist at University of Botswana before working as a Researcher on nanofiber water filters at Botswana Institute of Technology, Research and Innovation. He conducts research on plant secondary metabolites and the synthesis of compounds with healthful benefits, especially anti-cancer activities. He has isolated and characterized secondary metabolites using spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis, FT-IR, HR-MS and NMR) from T. esculentum, M. sericea, M. nigra, S. pinnata and S longipendunculata. His research has extended to the identification of the non-polar extracts using GC-MS. He has synthesized dioxolanes, flavanoids, pyrazoles, isoxazoles, sulphur compounds and diazepines. He has carried out bioassays for antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxicities on plant extracts and pure compounds targeting therapeutic treatment for microbial infections, cancer and body tonics. He has published 30 journal articles on peer reviewed journals.
