Nur Farhana Diyana Mohd Yunos is an Associate Profesor at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and a UNESCO/KEIZO OBUCHI Research Fellow at the Centre of Centre for Advanced Research of Energy and Materials, Hokkaido University from Apr to July 2022. She teaches Engineering Mathematics, Dynamics, Mass Transfer for Chemical Engineering, Transport Phenomena in Materials Engineering, Engineering Technology Management, Engineering Alloys, Applied Metallurgy and Final Year Project. She also has carried out engineering testing and consultancy services with industries. She received a Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Perlis in 2007, and received her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of New South Wales in 2012.
My research focuses on the investigation of recycling agricultural waste in Malaysia. I am particularly interested in converting this waste into renewable carbon material and energy resources for replacing conventional material from coal/coke for iron and steelmaking industry. This investigation is aimed on how to reduce the waste in the landfills as well as reducing the cost and energy consumption in steelmaking since this waste is a true renewable fuel, so it does not contribute to the increase in the global CO2 concentration. In my studies by recycling this agricultural waste, I implemented pyrolysis and combustion methods to convert this waste into activated carbon and correlated with the physical and chemical properties as a substitute or partially replacing the conventional carbon from coke/coal.
