My degree was obtained in 2004 in Chemistry-Biochemistry branch at Instituto Superior Técnico. From 2004-2008 I was a PhD student at the Biological Sciences Research Group (at IST) in which i have worked on the exploitation of OMICS approaches to study Saccharomyces cerevisae responses to weak acids used as food preservatives. From 2008-2011 I was a post-doc at the BSRG laboratory with a working programme dedicated to the elucidation of microbial responses to stress exploiting genome-wide analyses. Since November 2011 I am an Assistant Professor from the Department of Bioengineering at Instituto Superior Técnico. My research interests are focused on: i) Gene and genomic regulation in Saccharomyces cerevisae, Candida glabrata and Candida albicans; ii) Study of molecular mechanisms underlying pathogenesis of Candida glabrata and Candida albicans; iii) Epidemiology of invasive fungal infections; iv) Development of molecular-based diagnosis tools for the early detection of invasive infections caused by C. glabrata and C. albicans; v) Exploitation of Saccharomyces cerevisae as a cell factory for the production of add-value chemicals exploring systems- and synthetic biology-based approaches. Dr Mira has edited 4 research topics in international journals with peer-review (3 in Frontiers in Microbiology and 1 in Genes), and is author/co-author of 2 book chapters, 69 published research articles and 3 articles published in the proceeding of international conferences. He is also author/co-author of 111 communications in national and international meetings, out of which 26 were in the form of oral communications. According with ISI (https://www.webofscience.com/wos/author/record/E-2965-2012), Dr Mira has an h-index of 27 his publications being cited 2839 times (w/o self-citations) in 1981 citing articles. According with GoogleScholar classification (https://scholar.google.pt/citations?user=0Dnh0igAAAAJ). Dr Mira has an h-index of 31 being his publications cited 4360 times. Dr Mira is/was PI of 9 research projects (8 nationally funded, 1 funded in the framework of the 6th Era Net in Industrial Biotechnology), is member of two international networks (one funded within the framework of the EraSynBio Twinning activity for which Dr Mira was PI and the other funded by CAPES-Print, in Brasil) and is national coordinator of 1 COST action. He is/was supervisor/co-supervisor of 9 PhD thesis, 36 MsC thesis and 5 BsC thesis.
