Bio
Nucelio Lemos graduated from Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas da Santa Casa de Sao Paulo (2003), where he also underwent his residency training (2004-2006) and doctorate in Gynecology (2006-2008). During and after his PhD he worked as a volunteer physician at the Clinic of Urogynecology and Vaginal Surgery of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Santa Casa de Misericordia de Sao Paulo, developing a research line on the pathogenesis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, from February 2006 to October 2009. In parallel to his Urogynecology formation, Nucelio Lemos has developed extensive work in advanced MIS and endometriosis surgery, also with multiple publications in the field.
From June to October 2010, he has attended a Fellowship in Pelvic Neurodysfunctions by the International School of Neuropelveology in Hirslanden Klinik, Zurich, Switzerland, after which he founded the Pelvic Neurodysfunction Clinics of the Department of Gynecology of the Federal University of São Paulo (EPM-UNIFESP), which he still currently chairs and develops extensive research and teaching of all fields of Neuropelveology, namely: treatment of Intrapelvic Nerve Entrapments and Neuropathic Pain of Intrapelvic Etiology; Nerve-Sparing Radical Pelvic Procedures (including endometriosis and pelvic malignancies); and rehabilitation of of patients with spinal cord injuries and other causes of paraplegia and tetraparesis.
He acted for three years as Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the International Continence Society (2013-2016) and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL). From 2015, he acted as a Founding Director of the Latin American Pelvic Floor Association (ALAPP), acting as Chairman of the Scientific and Education Committee until March 2019. He is also a Founding Member and 2nd Vice-President of the International Society of Neuropelveology.
In November 2016, he founded the Institute for Care, Rehabilitation and Assistance in Neuropelveology and Gynecology, the first center in the world to provide integrated multidisciplinary and multi professional care in Neuropelveology.
In 2017, he was recruited as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Toronto (UofT), where he is starting the Pelvic Functional Surgery and Neuropelveology Clinic, at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Mount Sinai and Women’s College Hospitals.
Since then, he splits his practice between Canada and Brazil, working integratedly between the three institutions.
