Bio
She holds a Scholarship as Researche Productivity of CNPq (National Council of Research and development) and is a Scientist of Our State (CNE) by FAPERJ. In the period 2014-2016 she was vice-secretary of the of the Brazilian Society of Chemistry Regional-Rio (SBQ-Rio). In 2007 she was undersecretary of health of the municipality of Niterói, RJ. She holds a degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a master's degree in organic synthesis from the Nucleus of Natural Products Research (NPPN) at UFRJ, a doctorate in chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry (IQ) of UFRJ, with a stage at York University, England. She completed postdoctoral studies at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London, England. She is a master's and doctoral advisor of the permanent framework of the Post-Graduation Courses in Chemistry at UFRJ and the Program of Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences - ICB-UFRJ. She is a senior technologist at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ), where since 1986 has held various positions, including as Executive Director of Farmanguinhos. She is currently head of the Drugs Synthesis Department and coordinator of the Fiocruz National Synthesis Reference Center for Drugs Synthesis (CRSF), which will be installed in the UFRJ Technology Park. Leads one of the most important R & D group in drug synthesis in the state of Rio de Janeiro, aiming at the public production of medicines. Numerous total syntheses of important pharmaceuticals for public health have been developed in her laboratory, and their technologies have been transferred to the national pharmaceutical industry. In the field of innovation, the main focus is RD & I in drugs, having experience in the area of organofluorines and heterocycles chemistry, with emphasis in Medicinal Chemistry. Some hundreds of molecules have been synthesized for neglected diseases, AIDS and cancer, generating potent antimalarial, antimycobacterial, antichagasic, antiretroviral and antileukemic drugs, which are described in the her publications and patents. During her 33 years as a scientist at Fiocruz, she has been dedicated to improving access to medicines for users of the Unified Health System (SUS), with countless successful contributions.
