Norihiro Suzuki, currently Chief Executive Director, The Shonan Keiiku Hospital, had been Professor and Chairman of Neurology at the Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo from 2004 to 2018. He received doctorate in medical science in 1981. He was also received PhD degree in Neurobiology at the University of Lund, Sweden. He is a Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP). He had been a Board member of the International Society of Cerebral blood flow and Metabolism from 2002 to 2006. He had been a President of the Japanese Stroke Society from 2015 to 2017. He contributed publishing of the Japanese Guidelines for the Management of Stroke 2004, 2009 and 2015.
He graduated from Keio University, Tokyo in 1977 and received his medical degree and doctorate in medical science in 1981. In addition to his clinical career as a neurologist, he started research on innervation of the cerebral and dural vessels, particularly on the parasympathetic and trigeminal innervation. He completed his dissertation “cerebrovascular parasympathetic and sensory nerves” and presented it to the University of Lund, Sweden in 1989. He defended his doctoral thesis before Professor Michael A Moskowitz at Harvard Medical School and received PhD degree in Neurobiology at the University of Lund.
He held the position of Associate Professor of Neurology at Kitasato University, and in 2004 was appointed Chairman of the Department of Neurology, Keio University. He is a Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Member of a Trustee of the Board of the International Headache Society (IHS) from 2011. He has been visiting lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden (1989), Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA (1998), Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia (2000) and Beijing University, China (2010,2011). His research interests include the mechanism of vasodilatation of cerebral blood vessels with special reference to pathophysiology of migraine and trigeminoautonomic cephalalgia and receptor mechanism of pathophysiology of dementia and parkinson disease, etc.
