Bio
Nobuyuki Hamada was born in Chiba, Japan, on September 23, 1976. He received the B.Sc. degree in radiological sciences from the Ibaraki Prefectural University of Health Sciences, Ibaraki, Japan, in 1999, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in pharmaceutical sciences from Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan, in 2001 and 2004, respectively.
He was a visiting Ph.D. student with the Gray Cancer Institute, Middlesex, U.K., in 2003, and a Research Fellow with the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, Japan, in 2004. He was a Center of Excellence (COE) Research Fellow from 2004 to 2005, a COE Research Associate in 2005, a COE Assistant Professor from 2005 to 2007, and a COE Associate Professor from 2007 to the present with the Department of Quantum Biology, Division of Bioregulatory Medicine, Gunma University Graduate School of Medicine, Maebashi, Japan. His research interests have been in molecular radiation biology, particularly in terms of the response of normal and malignant human cells to ionizing radiation, ultraviolet light, and a nonpermissive temperature. He has published 32 original and 5 review articles in peer-reviewed international journals since 2001. His current research interests are centered on targeted and nontargeted effects of heavy ions in human cells.
Dr. Hamada is a member of the Japan Radiation Research Society (a board member from 2008 to 2009), the Young Radiation Biologists' Association in Japan (President in 2008), the Japanese Cancer Association, the Japanese Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, and the Japanese Society for Biological Sciences in Space. He was a recipient of the Young Investigator Award of the Japan Radiation Research Society in 2007.
