个人简介
Dr Maeda's research project focuses on understanding gene-gene and gene-environment interactions in complex human diseases such as atherosclerosis, hypertension and diabetes. In order to better understand the role of hypercholesterolemia in the formation of atherosclerosis, she has been using homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells to cultivate mice with gene mutations related to lipid metabolism. These mutations include polymorphic variations in the human genome, which may only have a small impact on themselves, but when combined with other risk factors, they have a great impact on vascular diseases.
