Dr. N. Hirokawa is a distinguished project professor in University of Tokyo. He is also the presidents of Human Frontier Science Program and International Federation for Cell Biology, an associate member of EMBO, a member of Japan Academy and an AAAS fellow. Dr. Hirokawa discovered most of the kinesin superfamily motor proteins ,KIFs, elucidated their molecular structures and functional roles and successfully disclosed the mechanism of intracellular transport. Furthermore, using molecular genetics he successfully uncovered that KIFs play significant roles for fundamental physiological phenomena in life.
Research Interest :
Neurobiology, Molecular Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics and Structural Biology of Molecular Motors, Kinesin superfamily proteins, KIFs and Intracellular Transport. Analyses of Diseases related with KIFs.
