Research summary
Nicola's PhD, awarded in 2011, examined the growth of charity retailing in the UK from a Marxist perspective. The PhD adopted an original conceptual approach to how we can understand charity and charity retailing in British capitalism. Much of Nicola's work is informed by Marxist thought. In addition to real estate research, Nicola’s research interests include the third sector, the political economy of charity and food insecurity. She has recently completed commissioned work on food aid for the Scottish Government. Her current research is focused on:
• The restructuring and evolution of the multi-asset portfolio
• How the retail market is changing through online and multi-channel interfaces
• Food insecurity in the UK
• UK housing provision
• How we can interpret the role of 'charity' in the twenty-first century
• Higher education pedagogy, specifically mentoring.
