个人简介
Internationally recognized as one of Canada’s most prominent researchers in applied social policy, Nick Falvo obtained his PhD in public policy from Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada). He has been a leading researcher and contributor to academic articles and studies on affordable housing, homelessness and social assistance, and is regularly called upon to present at conferences and provide expert academic peer review.
Nick’s decade-long experience working front-line with individuals experiencing homelessness in Toronto provides him a deep understanding of the ‘on the ground’ phenomena that influence poverty, a lack of affordable housing and homelessness. His extensive research of the macroeconomic and public policy factors that intersect with those phenomena inform his analysis, and, combined with his unique capacity to ‘cut through the jargon,’ makes his work accessible to academia and the public at large.
While at Carleton University, Nick developed and taught one of Canada’s only university-level courses on affordable housing and homelessness. He also led two research projects looking at poverty, affordable housing and homelessness in Canada’s North.
From 2015 until 2019, Nick worked as Director of Research and Data at the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF). The ‘system planner’ for Calgary’s homeless-serving system of care, CHF is also a funder, disbursing approximately $50 million annually to Calgary-based organizations.
Nick regularly provides peer review in both English and French to an array of academic journals. He is a member of the editorial board of the Canadian Review of Social Policy / Revue canadienne de politique sociale.
