Ângelo Salvador is a Post-Doc from University of Aveiro. Ângelo Salvador got his Ph.D. in 2017 from the Department of Chemistry, University of Aveiro, Portugal, working on the chemical characterization and potential health effects of the elderberry plant (supervisors Prof. Sílvia M. Rocha and Armando J. D. Silvestre). Part of his Ph.D. research was performed at the Institute of Life Sciences, Poznan, Poland. During his Ph.D. he has supervised two bachelor theses.
The Ph.D. was followed by a ca. one year research grant on the development of strategies for the management of pear and apple’s superficial scald and internal browning. Presently, he is conducting his Post-doc research on the AgroForWealth project: biorefining of agricultural and forest by-products and wastes for their valorisation. He has received the best MSc student from Food Chemistry field - Rotary Clube de Aveiro – Américo Reboredo Award, the best oral communication at the 62nd International Congress of the Society of Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research and the SPME National award (Sigma-Aldrich). He has published 14 SCI papers and 3 book chapters, with ca. 115 citations (h-index 6), and 1 national patent application. He gave ca. 36 oral and poster communications at international and national conferences.
His scientific interests are focused on the prospection of bioactive compounds from plants using advanced chromatographic methodologies as two-dimensional gas chromatography. Furthermore, he as interest on the valorisation of by-products from food, forest and agricultural industries in a chemical and health potential point of views. Finally, the social impact of his scientific studies allied with his entrepreneur spirit is reflected on the development of new food products and approaches that are projected to be included on the market.
