个人简介
Néstor Guijarro Carratalá holds a B.Sc. & M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Alicante (UA) since 2007. In addition, he was recipient of the Extraordinary Graduation Award from the UA, the Regional Graduation Award (ranked 1st) and the National Graduation Award (ranked 3rd).
He obtained a PhD in Material Science (2013) from the UA with the highest score (cum laude) under the supervision of Prof. Gomez and Prof. Lana-Villareal. As PhD student he was awarded with the competitive “Training of University Teaching Staff” (FPU) fellowship. Likewise, he received as well three mobility grants (3 months each) to work as a visiting researcher at the University of Electro-Communications (Japan) under the supervision of Prof. Toyoda and Prof. Shen (2009), and at Imperial College London with Prof. Haque (2010, 2011). During his PhD, he explored the emerging field of quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSCs), specially focusing on the synthesis and engineering of novel nanomaterial and the characterization of these devices utilizing photoelectrochemical as well as ultrafast spectroscopy techniques.
In 2013, Dr. Guijarro was awarded with the prestigious Marie Curie fellowship and joined the group of Prof. Sivula at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) as an independent postdoctoral researcher. Later on, in 2016 Dr. Guijarro obtained the highly-competitive Ambizione Energy grant to continue his career as group leader at EPFL. Here, he focused on the production of green hydrogen using sunlight by means of photoelectrochemical devices and the design of novel low-cost solar cells. He pioneered several solution-based routes to manufacture benchmarking photoelectrodes as well as revealed the parameters that limit the photocatalytic response of state-of-the-art metal oxides and chalcogenide materials. In addition, he demonstrated a record-performance hybrid organic solar cell containing perovskite nanocrystals. More recently, he has been awarded with the prestigious Ramon y Cajal fellowship (2018), to join the UA as a tenure track senior researcher, and with an ERC Starting grant (2020).
Overall, he has received about EUR 2.8M of cumulative funding as PI. So far, he has co-authored over 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, including several reviews and two book chapters. He is first author in 18 publications, corresponding in 13. He has garnered over 2880 citations and a h-index of 26 (Scopus), with 20 of his publications in high-impact journals (impact factor > 10). In addition, he is the corresponding author of over 30 contributions in conferences and workshops, including over 25 oral talks (16 as invited speaker). Along his career he has supervised and mentored 9 MSc and PhD students, with one MSc thesis directed and one ongoing PhD thesis where he is the supervisor. Likewise, he presently serves as referee of high-impact journals such as Nature Communications (NPG) and Nature Energy, Advanced Materials (Wiley-VCH), Journal of American Chemical Society (ACS) or Journal of Materials Chemistry A (RSC).
Current research interests of Dr. Guijarro focus on the development of novel electrochemical and photocatalytic technologies for hydrogen production, biomass upgrading and CO2 conversion.
