NEIL F. GORDON, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H, F.A.C.C.
Dr. Gordon is the CEO and Medical Director of INTERVENT International, L.L.C. He obtained his M.D. and a Ph.D. in exercise physiology in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Gordon subsequently relocated to the United States in 1987 and obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Health (M.P.H.) from U.C.L.A. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (F.A.C.C.) and is Board Certified in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Gordon served as Director of Exercise Physiology at the world-renowned Cooper Research Institute in Dallas, Texas for six and a half years where, amongst other things, he worked with numerous elite athletes including tennis great, Jimmy Connors and Olympic marathon gold medalist, Frank Shorter. He was subsequently in private practice with The Dallas Heart Group before moving to Savannah, Georgia in 1995 where he founded INTERVENTUSA, Inc., and the INTERVENT lifestyle management and chronic disease risk reduction programs.
In his capacity as INTERVENTUSA’s Founder, Chairman and CEO, Dr. Gordon successfully led the company’s national and international expansion which culminated in its acquisition by Nationwide Better Health (a subsidiary of Nationwide, one of the world’s largest insurance and financial services companies) in April 2007. After the acquisition, Dr. Gordon served as Chief Medical and Science Officer for Nationwide Better Health until July 2011 when he led an initiative which resulted in the re-acquisition of the global rights to the INTERVENT lifestyle management and chronic disease risk reduction programs. The INTERVENT programs have been used by over two million individuals to date.
Dr. Gordon has a current faculty appointment as Visiting Professor, Centre for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, School of Therapeutic Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a former Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta, Georgia), Vice-President of the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, member of the Board of Trustees of the American College of Sports Medicine, and Chairman of the American Heart Association Committee on Exercise, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Prevention. He has authored over 120 published scientific manuscripts, eight books, and numerous scientific abstracts in the area of preventive medicine and chronic condition management. Dr. Gordon served as an associate editor of the Eighth Edition of the American College of Sports Medicine’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription (the world’s most widely read academic text on the topic of exercise science).
Dr. Gordon has devoted his entire career, spanning over 35 years, to the prevention of cardiovascular disease and other chronic illnesses. His recognition by his peers as an international leader in the field of chronic disease prevention and management is attested to by the many honors and awards he has received.
