Bio
Nazmul Ahsan received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electronic engineering from The University of Tokyo (UTokyo), Japan, in 1999 and 2002, respectively. After starting the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in electrical and electronic engineering in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1991, he completed the B. E. from Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan, in 1997 under Monbusho Scholarship. After Ph.D. completion, he then held Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) research fellowship at UTokyo, and worked on light and electric field control of ferromagnetism in III-V spintronic semiconductors.
In 2008, he became a Project Assistant Professor with the Department of Electronic Engineering, UTokyo. In 2009, he joined the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) at UTokyo, where he is currently a Project Associate Professor. His current research interests include molecular beam epitaxy of compound semiconductors, ultra high-efficiency photovoltaic devices, spintronic devices, and materials design based on first principle calculation.
Dr. Ahsan is a senior member of the IEEE, the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP) and the American Physical Society (APS). He received the Bangladesh Prime Minister Gold Medal Award in 1991 for securing the first position in the combined merit list at Higher Secondary Education Examination. He has been a scholar with the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (MEXT) during 1991-1996, the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation during 1997-1998, and the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation during 1999-2001. He also received the 2002 Marubun Research Award from the Marubun Research Promotion Foundation and the 2003 Best Research Paper Award from the JSAP. He has been serving as the PI and Co-PI of many government and international funded projects.
In 2020, he has been named as ‘Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials (FIAAM, Sweden)’ for contribution to strengthening the "Advancement of Materials”.
