Bio
Research area: Our group concentrates mainly on un-doped and doped oxides of titanium and zinc for the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Apart from utilizing these materials for Photocatalytic and antibacterial properties, the group is actively involved in researching new materials exhibiting bright luminescence; the ultimate aim being applications in sensors. Here we mainly focus on doped oxide systems. Doping also opens the door to extend the photo activity of TiO2 and ZnO to visible light: another area of interest to the group. The excitement of creating and studying new materials drives the group.
Materials studied are doped and undoped TiO2, ZnO, WO3, Ferrite materials, metal sulphides and carbon quantum dots. Preparation methods: combustion, sol-gel, hydrothermal, co-precipitation and microwave synthesis. Application studies: Photocatalysis, Antibacterial activity, waste water treatment by adsorption. Selected as SRF 2014 by Indian Academy of sciences and worked on Carbon nanodots (C-dots) and their application to detect bilirubin enzyme (Biosensors). Development of solar light driven photocatalytic system for the generation of Hydrogen fuel
