Bio
I am certified PhD with a demonstrated history of research in exercise and its effect on patients specially dialysis patients.
My research interests are:
Investigating the effect of exercise on various medical conditions including but not limited to:
o The effect of exercise on dialysis patients’ survival as well as peritoneal dialysis patients’ survival
o Investigating how exercise affects each parameter effective in survival of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients
o Investigating the time required for exercise to affect each parameter effective in survival of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients
Throughout my academic and professional career, I have been passionate about addressing health inequalities and improving health outcomes for patients with multiple long-term conditions. The bulk of my research has been focused on dialysis patients, who are considered as examples of patients with multiple long-term conditions. I have helped find ways to extend their survival through the implementation of exercise during dialysis. In 2020, I presented at the Global Renal Exercise (GREX) conference on World Kidney Day, where I summarized the therapeutic and miraculous effect of exercise for dialysis patients in a slogan: “To Exercise or Not to Survive”. I worked hard to demonstrate the effects of exercise on dialysis patients and was the first person to show the effect of exercise during dialysis on the survival of dialysis patients, with the results being published in the BMC Nephrology journal. I have also collaborated with researchers from the University of Sydney, the University of Illinois, and other institutions to conduct further research on this topic.
In addition to my research on dialysis patients, I have a strong background in exercise physiology. My doctoral thesis focused on the effect of extrinsic resistance training and blood flow occlusion on inflammatory indicators affecting the activation of satellite cells in non-athletes. I also conducted research on diabetic rats with the title "Combined effect of resistance training with aqueous crocus sativus (saffron) extract on some heart and muscle histology indices in STZ-treated diabetic male rats". Working with these patients made me see the results of my own research and that of other researchers in the world in a practical way, and on the other hand, working with these patients created motivation and ideas for further research.
I have gained significant experience in research and have a growing reputation in my field of research. I have experience in managing a research budget, contributing to successful grant applications, and supervising PhD students. I am also skilled in qualitative data analysis and trial experience, which I believe would be valuable for the project.
As a member of international societies such as the International Society of Nephrology, European Renal Association, International Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Society and Global Renal Exercise, I have given oral presentations at international congresses in France, China, and the World Congresses of Nephrology. I have also written a book entitled "Physical Activity and Disease Prevention, Assessment and Exercise Prescription", which is currently under publication.
I have experience in managing and delivering collaborative-based research projects, and I am committed to personal professional development in my subject expertise. I have completed EIM courses to prescribe exercises for patients and have developed a theoretical framework to interpret the results of my research. In addition, I have supervised several master's and PhD theses in related areas.
Furthermore, I have owned and managed wellness centers for the past six years, providing exercise services to patients with chronic or rare diseases, as well as healthy people with special considerations like older adults. This experience has given me a valuable understanding of the practical applications of research and the importance of tailoring interventions to individual patients' needs.
I am excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with other researchers at the University of Leicester and stakeholders external to the University. I am confident that my analytical/technical problem-solving capability and ability to contribute to securing research funding would enable me to make valuable contributions to the research project. I am also committed to demonstrating behaviours that are in accordance with the University values of inclusive, inspiring, and impactful.
