个人简介
I am Full Professor of Mathematics Education at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and have worked for more than 25 years with multilingual and multilcultural communities of learners in school contexts of poverty. I am particularly interested in studying linguistic, social and cultural influences on the teaching and learning of mathematics with emergent bilinguals and learners socially produced as linguistically disadvantaged. I have led several funded research and developmental projects that focus on turning language and culture into educational resources in school mathematics. I am internationally known for my contributions to the language as resource notion/approach in mathematics education, and their practical implications in the domain of mathematics teacher education and professional development. I would say that all this research journey and passion started many years ago, during my time as a secondary-school mathematics teacher. One day, a young girl migrated from Bangla Desh looked at me and asked in English, “Do you think I can learn mathematics, Miss?” Of course she could.
