Bio
Dr. Nicola Labanca joined Trilateral Research in 2022 as Research Manager on climate, environment and energy within the Innovation and Research team. He manages and conducts research under a socio-technical perspective in the areas of climate change and environmental, social and economic sustainability.
He has been senior researcher at the Joint Researcher Centre (JRC) of the European Commission (EC) from 2012 and 2020. There, he has been responsible for monitoring and analyzing the energy efficiency market situation in EU countries and worldwide. Moreover, he has supported the EC in the design, implementation and assessment of 1) eco-design and energy labelling regulations for energy related products and of 2) the EU Directive on Energy Efficiency (mostly in relation to article 7 on energy efficiency obligations schemes for energy distributors and retail energy sales companies). At the JRC, he has also ideated an interdisciplinary research line combining complex systems and social practices perspectives that has involved acknowledged scholars working in the areas of energy transition and energy sustainability. Nicola Labanca has also worked as researcher for Milano Politecnico in Italy. During the 10 years spent at this university, he has mainly managed international research projects focusing on design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of energy end-use efficiency policies implemented by EU member states to comply with the EU Energy Service Directive, now replaced by the EU Energy Efficiency Directive.
Nicola Labanca holds a PhD from Universitá di Milano and a Master degree from Universitá di Pisa (both in elementary particle physics).
