个人简介
My research over the past 40 years has focused on the use of laser light to alter, manipulate and study cells
through the microscope, as well as the development of laser-based microscopy tools combined with the
appropriate computer imaging and robotics tools to study cells. Towards this end I have been and continue to
be a major user and collaborator with the NIH LAMMP Resource at UC Irvine at the Beckman Laser Institute.
Projects that members of my lab currently are in engaged in are: (1) studies on DNA repair processes
following site-specific laser exposure during all the phases of the cell cycle including mitosis, (2) development
of two-photon microscopy based method for identification, activation and imaging of genetically targeted
cells, (3) development of a quantitative phase laser microbeam system for evaluation of dynamic changes in
cells with nanometer accuracy, (4) study of site-specific injury-repair in goldfish retinal ganglion cells by use of
laser scissors, (5) development of optical methods for generating microfluidic flow for control of neuronal
growth cone guidance, (6) measurement of force during neuronal growth and stimulation using optical
tweezers, (7) analysis of chromosome paling using optical and genetic techniques, (13) development of fiber
probe for manipulation of microscopic objects, (8) structural and molecular analysis of chromosomal damage
combining immunostaining and electron microscopy.
