deals with ecological interactions in aquatic ecosystems; aquatic macroinvertebrates; conservation of aquatic ecosystems; invasive aquatic species; feeding ecology of fishes; biomonitoring; aquatic genotoxicology; microbiology of freshwaters; implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive in the Danube Basin (since 2003). Momir Paunović participated in more than 50 international, bilateral and national projects, including EC Framework Programme Projects, Implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive, preparation of River Basin Management Plans in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, establishment of NATURA2000 network in Serbia and Montenegro, but also development of NATURA2000 platform in Bulgaria and Croatia. He published 30 book chapters and more than 150 peer reviewed papers. He is a President of the Serbian Water Protection Society (2020-), member of the Serbian Biological Society, Member of Editorial Board of the following scientific journals: Water Research and Management, Archives of Biological Science, Science of the Total Environment (until 2022), Ecologica Montenegrina, Macedonian Journal of Ecology and Environment and Voda i sanitarna tehnika. He is involved in teaching within Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Kragujevac (2008-) and he was an accredited supervisor for doctoral studies on the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Biology (2014-2019).
