Bio
Mohamed Abdallah was born in Giza, Egypt. He received the B.Sc. degree (Hons.) from Cairo University in 1996, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park in 2001 and 2006, respectively. He joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Texas A&M University at Qatar, in 2009. He is an Associate Research Scientist with Texas A&M University at Qatar, and an Associate Professor with the Electronics and Electrical Communication Department, Cairo University (currently on leave). His research interests lie in the design of physical layer algorithms and signal processing techniques for novel wireless systems and technologies, including cellular heterogeneous network, visible light and free-space optical communication systems, smart grids, powerline communications, cognitive networks, reconfigurable smart antenna systems, sensor networks, and location determination techniques.
Dr. Abdallah professional activities include an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications, a Technical Program Co-Chair of the 10th International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks, a Workshop Co-Chair of the IEEE WCNC’16 Workshop on Optical Wireless Communication, a Voting Active Member of the IEEE Standard 802.15.7r1 titled Short Range Optical Communication, and a Technical Program Committee Member of several major IEEE conferences.
Dr. Abdallah is a recipient of the Research Fellow Excellence Award at Texas A&M University at Qatar in 2016, the Best Paper Award in the IEEE First Workshop on Smart Grid and Renewable Energy in 2015, and the Nortel Networks Industrial Fellowship from 1999 to 2003. He also won first place in the University of Maryland Graduate Research Interaction Day Competition from 2003 to 2004.
