Bio
Mohamed Farhat O. Hameed was born in Egypt in 1979. He received the B.Sc. degree in electronics and control engineering and the M.Sc. degree in engineering physics from Mansoura University, Mansoura, Egypt, in 2000 and 2005, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in modeling of photonic crystal waveguides through a channel scheme between Mansoura University and Glamorgan University, Treforest, U.K., in 2010. He received the Best Ph.D. Thesis Prize for 2011–2012 from Mansoura University. He is working in the area of computational electromagnetics, with good track records of publications. He has built an outstanding body of work in the area of computational modeling with emphasis on photonic bandgap fibers infiltrated with liquid crystal material. He has published 20 journal papers, mostly in IEEE and IEE journals and 15 conference papers have been presented in the best national and international meetings. He has been a member of Prof. Obayya Photonics Group, Mansoura University, Leeds University, and Glamorgan University, and contributed to the development of a comprehensive numerical package for the accurate numerical modeling of electromagnetic wave propagation in a wide range of microwave and photonic waveguides, cavities and devices. In this regards, a whole suite of novel, accurate, and yet numerically efficient, full-wave numerical models have been created, and that includes finite difference modal analysis of PBG fibers infiltrated with liquid crystal material, beam propagation analysis of PBG fiber couplers and its applications to polarization splitter, and multiplexer-demultiplexer, beam propagation analysis of PBG fiber, and its applications to polarization rotator. He has developed an accurate radial basis function based neural network-finite difference approach for the analysis and design of PBG fibers. His current research interests include the areas of numerical modeling of photonic crystal fibers, surface plasmon, directional couplers, splitters, and polarization converters.
