Bio
Mohamed Aghar Elrayess has joined Qatar University in September 2019 as a research associate professor and a principle investigator with interests in stem cell therapy in diabetes and genomics and metabolomics of elite athletes. He has over 18 years of experience in stem cell research in industry (ADLQ), pharmaceuticals (Eisai Ltd., UK) and academia (University College London, UK). He graduated from Queen Mary University of London, in 1998, and obtained his Ph.D. degree in cardiovascular genetics from the Department of Medicine, University College London, UK, in 2002. His main interest is to investigate the role of stem cells in the etiology of insulin resistance, in particular the molecular mechanisms associated with adipocyte dysfunction in the pathologically lean and obese subjects and factors underlying the protective phenotype seen in their metabolically healthy counterparts.
