个人简介
Mohamed A. Abdel-Rahman (PhD), Professor, Zoology Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Egypt. In 2007, I have obtained my PhD degree (Molecular Toxinology & Physiology) from Suez Canal University & Okayama University (Japan). Subsequently, I awarded several postdoctoral fellowships in the UK & Mexico funded from the Egyptian Government (ParOwn Egypt, 2009), Arab Fund for Economic & Social Development (Kuwait, Distinguished Arab Scholar, 2012), The Third World Academy of Science (TWAS-UNESCO Association, Italy), the Company of Biologists (Cambridge) and the Academy of Biomedical Sciences (London). In 2018, I was selected as a member in the National Committee of Toxicology (Academy of Scientific Research & Technology, Egypt).
My research interests are focused on the molecular, biochemical & pharmacological examination of Egyptian animal venoms with a focus on toxins with neurotoxic, cytotoxic and cardiovascular activity. Through the collaboration with various international groups [Institute of Biotechnology at UNAM University, Mexico; Biomolecular Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University; Sheffield University; Leads University (UK), Kyoto University and Kobe University (Japan)] I am interested in the molecular characterization of antimicrobial, anticancer peptides and ion channel neurotoxins from scorpions, snakes and Conus using different Venomics approaches including proteomic and transcriptomic analyses. Recently, our research led to the discovery of novel antimicrobial & anticancer peptides from the venom of Egyptian scorpions and snakes. Currently, we are developing these molecules into potent therapeutic agents targeting pathogens and cancer. In this regard, I have a good track record including 3 patent applications, 2 books, book chapter & articles appeared in the Journals of Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, Toxicon, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta-Biomembranes, SpringerPlus, JVATiTD, JAE, Com Bioch Physiol, Toxicol in Vitro, Experimental & Applied Acarology, IJPRT and others. Also, I have presented our work at many national & international conferences in Egypt, Mexico, UK, USA, Portugal and Cyprus.
In addition, I am serving as a member in the editorial board of the journal of venom research (Library Publishing Media, Oxford, UK), Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases (Springer, PMC, UK), Journal of EC Proteomics and Bioinformatics (UK), Ascian Council of Science Editors, and reviewed articles for many scientific journals and the National Geographic Magazine (USA). Member in the Council of Egyptian Society of Natural Toxins (2014-16) and in various national & international scientific societies. At Suez Canal University, I am teaching a wide range of modules including venomics, biochemistry & physiology. The advisor & co-advisor of 7 PhD 5 MSc students.
