Bio
Mohamad is a thermo-fluids engineer and a Ph.D. candidate in Bioengineering at the University of Michigan. With more than 4 years of experience, his research focuses on modeling microfluidic devices and testing different parameters such as shear thinning, shear stress, and boundary layers of microchannels on the behavior of cells. He is characterizing the hydrogel droplets/biomaterials and adjusting their physical, mechanical, and chemical properties to regulate the function of cells in the devices. Our main goal is to study the impact of these parameters on the viability, secretory activity, morphology, and differentiation processes of cells. The project is implementing both, theoretical and experimental work where COMSOL software is used for modeling and testing the parameters, and then the cleanroom at the University of Michigan Bioengineering Complex is used to generate microfluidic devices. The tissue culture facilities in the same complex are used to run the cell culture and differentiation studies using the generated devices.
