Bio
Takayasu Mochizuki was born in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, in 1945. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 1968, 1970, and 1973, respectively.
From 1973 to 1975, he was a Guest Scientist at the Hahn-Meitener-Institute, Berlin, Germany. In 1975, he joined the Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, becoming a Professor in 1984, where he worked on uranium laser isotope separation and laser fusion, especially x-ray drive implosion of the fusion pellet. In 1987, he joined Hoya Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, where he was General Manager of Optronics Division and a member of the Board of Directors. Since 1994, he has been a Professor at the Laboratory Advanced Science and Technology for Industry, Himeji Institute of Technology, Japan. His research interests include high-power solid-state lasers, laser generation of plasma x-rays, and free electron lasers and their applications.
Dr. Mochizuki is a member of the Japan Society of Applied Physics and the Laser Society of Japan.
