He has been working since several years on the development of methods with high sensitivity and reproducibility for the determination of chemical markers in various matrices (in the environmental, technological, food and pharmaceutical industry, medical-sanitary field). Since when he carried out his PhD, his research activity has always been focused on the chemical analysis and on the environmental and climatic interpretation of stratigraphies from snow layers and ice cores from polar areas (Antarctica, Arctic) and from the Alps by using different analytical techniques (IC, IC-PAD, FIC, FIA, HR-ICP-MS, ICP-OES, TOC analyzer).
He took part to a number of scientific and sampling expeditions in the Arctic and in Antarctica and is Coordinator or Research Unit Responsible of many national and international research programs which are active in polar areas besides authoring more than 130 publications on peer-reviewed scientific journals with medium-to-very high impact.
