Bio
Miriam Reiner received the Ph. D. degree in physics education from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa.
She is currently a Senior Lecturer with the Technion and a Senior Research Scientist with SUMMIT, Stanford, CA. Her work focuses on the link between sensory information, knowledge, and action. She is especially interested in how haptics is used for efficient bodily interaction in real and virtual environments and for developing a “sense of presence.” Her practical interests are in designing a telepresence environment for efficient telemanipulation, such as in surgery. In this context, she identified haptic elements that are constituents of a haptic language-like communication system. She studied haptics learning over the network and, based on fMRI experiments, she studies the interaction between haptics and visuals. She recently initiated a new subsection of Eurohaptics titled “haptic cognition.”
