Bio
I am a Neuropharmacologist. My research focuses on molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration and repair, and on developing novel treatments for brain diseases studying human brain tissue & cells using tissue microarray, human brain cell culture, molecular pharmacology, high throughput devices and high-content analysis. I established & direct a number of platforms to undertake this human brain-based neuropharmacology research: the Hugh Green Biobank (dedicated to growing human brain cells & now funded in perpetuity with an $13.8M in total grants from the Hugh Green Foundation); the Neurosurgical Research Unit (linking neuroscientists with neurosurgeons); and the High Content Analysis and Tissue Microarray Lab. These combined research tools are being used to study brain disorders such as Epilepsy, Brain tumours, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Motor Neuron Disease and Huntington’s, and to test and develop new treatment strategies.
