Rinne’s current research interests are directed to rock engineering, rock fracture mechanics and mining technology applied to challenges in nuclear waste disposal, geothermal energy, geotechnical risk assessment and environmental issues.
Rinne has been involved with a wide range of teaching activities like lecturing, curriculum development, development of courses and exercises. He has supervised or instructed more than 100 master theses and four doctoral students from start to completion.
Rinne has assessed academic posts (12) and act as a public examiner or as an opponent of 12 doctoral dissertations. He has been involved with development of Bachelor and Master Degree programs including the international European Mining and Mineral Engineering Program (EMMEP_ EMC) and the Master programme in Geoengineering.
