Career Trajectory
Bio
My initial competence was in Pure Mathematics, but thirty years ago I turned towards Image Processing and Industrial Vision. In this field, I created in 1983 a Masters Degree at Saint-Etienne University. From 1989 until 2003, I was the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department of CPE (Engineer School located in Lyon). Now, I joined back Saint-Etienne University and I work in the Laboratory Hubert Curien (CNRS Lab.).
My current fundamental research is mainly devoted to the LIP (Logarithmic Image Processing) Model. This framework has shown its efficiency in case of low-lighted images, illumination variations and lighting drift. The LIP Model was dedicated at the beginning to images in transmission, but it has been demonstrated as consistent with human vision, which permits to apply it to images in reflexion on which we aim at extracting information as a human eye would do. A lot of industrial applications have been achieved thanks to the LIP. Among them, we can cite the control of defects on images of dams, bridges...acquired by means of a drone .
