Signal transduction pathways involved in the regulation of excitation-contraction coupling in smooth muscle, particularly of the vasculature.
Specific areas of interest include:
Ca2+-sensitization of smooth muscle contraction
Ca2+-independent phosphorylation of myosin and contraction
The molecular basis of myogenic tone in the vasculature (in collaboration with Dr. Bill Cole)
Functional interactions between Rho-associated kinase and zipper-interacting protein kinase in vascular smooth muscle cells (in collaboration with Dr. Justin MacDonald)
