Career Trajectory
Bio
Michael Kimber received the BSc (Hons.) degree in 1998 and the PhD
degree in molecular parasitology in 2001 from Queen’s University Belfast, United Kingdom. He is currently an
associate professor of physiology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Iowa State University's College of
Veterinary Medicine. His broad background is in helminth biology and, in particular, parasitic nematodes. His research
program integrates a diverse range of molecular biology and physiology techniques to better understanding the biology
of parasitic nematode systems and processes. A recent focus is the use of next-gen deep-sequencing strategies to study
small RNA species called microRNAs (miRNA) as effectors of gene manipulation. An author of over 30 publications, he
also serves as a member of multiple NIH Study Section panels and international granting bodies.
