Bio
Michael J. Brennan attended North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC,
USA, receiving the Bachelor's degree in meteorology in 1999 and the Master's degree in 2001 and Doctorate in atmospheric
sciences in 2005.
He is a Senior Hurricane Specialist at NOAA's National Hurricane Center, Miami, FL, USA. He began his career working
for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) as a Visiting Scientist at the National Hurricane Center
in 2005, where he worked on the transition of satellite ocean surface vector wind data from research to operations. In
2007, he became the Science and Operations Officer at the National Weather Service's (NWS) Hydrometeorological
Prediction Center (now the Weather Prediction Center) which is responsible for producing a wide variety of weather
forecast guidance, including quantitative precipitation forecasts, snow and ice forecasts, model diagnostics, and
medium-range forecasts for local NWS offices and other customers. He became a Senior Hurricane Specialist in 2008, a
position where operational duties include the issuance of track, intensity, and wind radii forecasts as well as
associated watches and warnings for tropical cyclones in the Atlantic and eastern North Pacific oceans. His current
research interests include quantifying the impact of supplemental observations on model forecasts of tropical cyclone
track. He has served as a presenter at numerous scientific meetings, including conferences of the American
Meteorological Society, the American Geophysical Union, and the National Weather Association.
Dr. Brennan has served as a reviewer for a number of scientific journals and is currently a member of the American
Meteorological Society's Committee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting.
