Bio
Michael Galea PhD is a clinical psychologist by profession and an academic. He read for Masters at the University of London in Pastoral Theology, and later for a Masters in Pastoral Psychology at the University of Loyola, MD, USA. In 2003 he received his doctorate in psychology from the same University with his doctoral dissertation focusing on the psycho-social and spiritual intricacies of child abuse in Malta.
Michael has a vast and varied work experience with past employment posts in London, UK; Lamu and Nairobi, Kenya; Ventnor City, NJ, and Baltimore, MD, USA.
In Malta, Michael has contributed to Appogg and Sedqa agencies with work at Corradino Correction Facility and Addiction Services, respectively; at Kana Marriage Encounters Services; at Moviment Era Gdida Psycho-Social Assistance to the Needy; at the Malta Catholic Church Tribunal; at the Malta Adoption Psychological Services; amongst others.
Michael is well versed in the social media in which he regularly contributes to live local TV programs with phone ins, on subjects related to mental health. He has a daily pre-recorded TV program, Shanti, that runs on fLiving TV channel, which is also streamlined online on Facebook. Moreover, Michael runs a regular YouTube series, with the name of 'Psychology Minute with Michael Galea', on mental health topics.
Michael has published three books in Maltese: 'Ma' Niket il-Mewt lejn Tama u Hajja Gdida (2006), Nghix Hajja Sabiha (2019), and F'Qalbi, Ma Tmut Qatt (2020). He has a new publication in print, with the name Bilanc: ghal Hajja Ahjar, due for publication in mid 2022.
Michael is a senior lecturer with the Department of Mental Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta. His research interests include psychology of religion and spirituality, post-traumatic growth, stress and burnout, and positive psychology, amongst others.
