Dr. Richmond has been engaged in research involving platinum group metals for the last several years. The majority of this research has dealt with the syntheses and ligand activation studies of mono- and polynuclear organometallic compounds. The redox properties, dynamic ligand behavior, and catalytic reactivity of platinum group metal complexes have also been explored. Currently, high-pressure catalytic investigations of selected platinum metal cluster compounds are being studied by Cylindrical Internal Reflectance (CIR) Spectroscopy in order to accurately assess the nature of the active catalyst in hydroformylation and hydrogenation reactions. Dr. Richmond’s current research interests are centered on the study of P-C bond cleavage on metal clusters, carbon dioxide reduction, hydrocarbon activation, organometallic redox reactions, and photocatalytic processes employing transition metal complexes.
