My clinical practice focuses on pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. I am board-certified in clinical informatics, and am an elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics. I manage a research group that has been continuously NIH-funded since 2003, and that studies telemedicine, clinical information systems, artificial intelligence, and genotype-phenotype correlation to improve delivery of ophthalmic care. I direct two major NIH-funded training programs at OHSU, and teach in both the ophthalmology & biomedical informatics departments. I am an elected member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Board of Trustees, and have held numerous leadership positions on national committees involving information technology, clinical practice, registries, and "big data". Before coming to OHSU, I spent 9 years at Columbia University, where I was Anne S. Cohen Associate Professor in Ophthalmology & Biomedical Informatics, director of medical student education in ophthalmology, and director of the introductory graduate student course in biomedical informatics.
