Bio
Mhairi Macrae is a neuroscientist with an undergraduate and post-graduate degree in Pharmacology from the University of Glasgow.
Her main research interest is in stroke and cerebral blood flow (CBF), studying ischaemic brain injury using in vivo rodent models, imaging techniques including MRI and behavioural testing.
She has expertise in the development of animal models of experimental stroke, in the measurement of CBF and ischaemic damage and in the assessment of neurological deficits and functional recovery. Her research has included studies of CBF, brain metabolism, cerebral autoregulation, oxidative stress, inflammation and stroke sensitivity genes.
She is Deputy Head of Stroke and Brain Imaging, with her group based in the neuroscience laboratories of the Wellcome Surgical Institute (WSI), Garscube Estate, University of Glasgow, Glasgow G61 1QHUK.
