个人简介
Melvin Lippe is a land system scientist who works at the Thuenen Institute of Forestry (until 30.11.2021: Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics) in Hamburg, Germany. His research interest is rooted in agricultural sciences, geography and landscape ecology, and seeks to better understand the interactions of people and their environment (=social-ecological systems, SESs) for making decisions and designing policies that can keep our plant inhabitable.
His research builds on a range of methodological approaches, including case studies, systematic reviews, spatial analysis, geosimulation models (agent-based, cellular automata, hybrid approaches), combining biophysical and socio-economic data with qualitative information. Particular interest rests on analysis and modelling the impact of land use change (LUC) on ecosystem function and services. Further interests include the mapping of land cover/land use change patterns, habitat fragmentation and landscape connectivity using satellite-based sensors (i.e., GeoEye, Landsat 8, Sentinel 1/2, Worldview) in combination with open-source data repositories.
He developed a series of spatial-role play games for teaching purposes while being a lecturer at the University of Hohenheim, Germany. He holds a teaching certificate for higher education purposes, and possess several years of teaching and supervising under-/and post-graduate students from different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds.
