Research interests
Mel's research priority is teaching and learning in higher education, with a focus on health professionals education. Her research aligns with the educational theory of social constructivism, and her personal philosophy supporting an authentic, student-centred curriculum.
Her education research interests focus experiential learning, including project-based learning, interdisciplinary and interprofessional learning and developing self-directed life-long learners. Mel is also interested in issues affecting the academic workforce, including recruitment and retention, academic development and career development.
As a dental practitioner, Mel is also involved in educational research specific to dentistry and oral health, and preventive oral health care.
