The aspects and focus of my research can be simplified as to map, understand and to reveal the timing and rate of the earth processes, changes and interaction of the natural environment with the human evolution within the highly active tectonic environment of the Eastern Mediterranean. Detailed mapping at the field is fundamental in my research. I have keen experience in mapping the Quaternary archives deposited different environments by using conventional geological and geomorphological techniques and also new applications such as GIS, LIDAR and digital UAV photogrammetry for high precision and resolution 3D mapping.
The terrestrial sedimentary records are both vertically and laterally discontinuous, with frequent hiatuses. Topographic relationships of contemporaneous units are complex and often making Quaternary units difficult to correlate stratigraphically. This means that in addition to the primary tools of the Quaternary geologist, which comprise morphological, lithological and biostratigraphic analysis, absolute time control is of the utmost importance. Therefore systematic dating of these archives aids us to answer important questions on the specific questions of the Quaternary where luminescence dating is leading method for precision dating of inorganic sedimentation to define the rates of landscape evolution (timing, magnitude and frequency).
Since 2012, I have been working on luminescence dating of sediments deposited in fluvial, aeolien, coastal, slope, glacial outwash, permafrost and from archeological sections (Neolithic and Paleolithic periods). I built collaborations with different luminescence laboratories accompanied with short-long term visits. (Leibniz Institute of Advanced Geophysics, LIAG; Baylor University, Waco and Ankara University, Turkey). Starting with the precise mineral separation and now enhancing my knowledge on the theory and methods such as the conventional OSL-SAR, p-IRIR, TL, TA-OSL and now towards TL and single grain TT-OSL). I have carried out all steps of the luminescence dating method by utilizing RISO DA-20 OSL/TL Reader and interpreting the measurements.
My research has focused on archives of climate-driven, active tectonic-driven geological settings in Anatolia, as these are crucial areas holding key archives for studying and understanding changes in climate, sea level and tectonic driving forces over time and also interactions between the landscape and human evolution, dispersion and land use of the prehistoric societies.
