Research Summary
Meg Wiggins is a Senior Research Officer at the Social Science Research Unit, UCL Institute of Education. She has over 20 years of experience leading both large and small-scale evaluations in health and education, including randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of social interventions with integral process evaluations.
Her health research has included studies relating to contraceptive use; antenatal and maternity care; teenage pregnancy and parenting; postnatal depression; education for children with diabetes, as well as a range of programmes to improve the health, well-being and life chances of disadvantaged young people. Her work has been carried out primarily in the UK, but also in South Africa. She is currently a co-investigator on a large programme of research of community health interventions focused around antenatal care (The REACH programme).
Her education research has included RCTs of education interventions for the Education Endowment Foundation: Training Research Leads in secondary schools (RISE); the use of handheld feedback devices; the teaching of foreign languages; the impact of chess lessons in primary schools. Additionally she was a co-investigator on a trial of a whole school intervention for prevention of bullying within secondary schools in the UK (INCLUSIVE trial).
Meg has also been involved in studies relating to the the use of evidence to inform policy making and practice.
