SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF PROF. MD. MOKLESUR RAHMAN SARKER, PhD
Prof. Dr. Md. Moklesur Rahman Sarker is a Professor and Head of Academic & Research Affairs, Department of Pharmacy, State University of Bangladesh. In addition, he is working as the Managing Director and Chief Researcher of Health Med Science Research Limited, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He served as the Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of the University (a program of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh). He is the Chairman of Institutional Animal Ethics Committee and Executive Member of Human Ethics Committee of the State University of Bangladesh. Prof. Moklesur has 19 years’ of colourful working experiences in different academic and research institutions in home and abroad. Before joining to State University of Bangladesh, he worked as a Research Fellow and Principal Investigator of two High Impact Research Projects in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. He also served in Lincoln University College Malaysia holding several important academic and research positions including- Associate Professor and Head of Pharmacology Department in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Coordinator for Post-Graduate Program in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Chairman of Animal Ethics Committee, and Head of Animal Experimental Unit of the University. Prior to this, he served as an Assistant Professor and Head of Pharmacy Department in the Daffodil International University and also worked in national and multinational Pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh with different capabilities including Research & Development of pharmaceutical products. Prof. Moklesur obtained his PhD degree in Immunopharmacology from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Okayama University Japan in the year 2010. He is currently mentoring a number of research projects of Post-Doctoral Fellow, PhD, post-graduate and undergraduate students. In the past, he has supervised thesis and research projects of 1 Post-Doctoral, 3 PhD, 74 postgraduate and 41 undergraduate students. Meanwhile, Prof Moklesur has published 63 articles in peer reviewed journals including high impact factor journals published by Elsevier, Wiley-Blackwell, Frontiers, Taylor & Francis, Informa Healthcare, Springer, BioMed Central, and Wolters Kluwer - Medknow Publications. His research interests include- diabetes & antidiabetic agents, immunomodulating agents, cancer & anticancer agents, lipid lowering/antiobesity agents, Prophetic medicines, phytomedicines/herbal medicines, functional foods & nutraceuticals, antibiotics/antimicrobial drugs resistance, rational use of drugs, substandard/adulterated/counterfeit drugs, impact of food adulteration on public health. His research team is currently focusing on the discovery and development of alternative medicines (herbals, phytomedicines, nutraceuticals, functional foods) for the treatment/management of diabetes, cancer, immunity, obesity/hyperlipidemia, fatty liver and aphrodisiac problems with minimizing/avoiding the unwanted side-effects of conventional drugs. Prof Moklesur attended a number of international conferences, workshops and scientific seminars as invited speaker, oral presenter and poster presenter, and bagged few awards as the best speaker and the best poster presenter as well. He obtained several research grants and lead several research projects as project leader or Principal Investigator. He is currently mentoring and/or involved with 20 different research projects in different academic and research institutions in Malaysia, USA, Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Bangladesh. He has obtained three PATENTs for the discovery and development of novel functional foods/nutraceuticals/herbal medicines formulation for the treatment/management of diabetes, hyperlipidemia and immunity. He is a member of several professional associations/societies, such as Academic Society of Functional Foods and Bioactive Compounds - USA, Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society, American Society of Microbiology, and Bangladesh Pharmacy Graduates’ Association. As an acknowledgement of his outstanding contribution for research and innovation, his biography has been published in the Marquis “Who’s Who in the World 2016” (33rd Edition, VIP Number: 37008993)”.
